Expressive Voice Work allows the voice to become free to sound the full spectrum of the soul, which in turn frees our creativity, artistry and our selves. I have studied with some of the greatest voice researchers in the world and combine the very best of vocal technique with uninhabited spontaneous primal voicing to enable total vocal freedom and emotional expression. Tuning you into your own brilliance.
“The voice comes from a part of yourself that simply knows, expresses itself and is” Jeff Buckley
It is my belief that technical work must be balanced with uninhibited voice work. Children are masters! But it’s something you can re-learn/practise. There is a clarity that comes from doing, from allowing a stream of consciousness, from exploring where it leads, all it’s perfect imperfections, it spontaneous creative flow.
“I love the feeling of a song before you understand it. When we’re all playing deep inside the moment the song feels wild and unbroken. ..there is a moment when the song is still in charge and you just cling on for dear life… It is that fleeting moment that we chase in the studio”. Nick Cave.
We learn, we 'find' our voices, we allow them, through doing, through trying, through failing, through exploring, through playing, through letting go, through doing the work. No 'teacher' can make that journey disappear, no matter what you're told. It's your heroes journey. Every person is different. Every day is different. A butterfly flaps it's wings and you learn to respond in the moment through practise, repetition, self awareness.
A great teacher is a great catalyst, a guide, encouraging and supporting your growth. Sharing inspiration, energy and passion. There's nothing I like doing more than spending my time with people who inspire me with their passion.
Everyone has the ability to open their hearts and minds to the world. To sing out their song and tell their story. Great teachers are the biggest students of all, otherwise being a teacher would be profoundly limited. Being a student is limitless. We are all constantly growing and evolving and this growth, change, expansion never stops. Teaching, working in close proximity to others is both a privilege and an exceptional and beautiful challenge. It requires huge resilience, breadth of knowledge and humility. I've had so many amazing teachers in my life, in the form of friends, other artists, students, 'teachers', facilitators. I believe like Steinbeck that 'A great teacher is a great artist and there are as few as there are any other great artists’.
"Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit". John Steinbeck
I have supported singers, 'non-singers' and artists professionally for over 15 years. I've worked with clients on all the major labels and many more indies, folks with Kerrang, NME, Brit awards. We're all human beings with the same goals. I'm interested in real people, real stories, brilliant work, imperfect work, shit work. The process. The doing. The conversations. The questions. The journey. Your journey.

“Jen is that rare thing. An active, passionate, curious musical artist, equally passionate and curious about the art of teaching, in her pupils and their development.
