Long-Term Success for Singers & Artists: Why Persistence Beats Talent

by | Apr 6, 2024 | Self Expression & Confidence Building

In the journey of learning to sing, becoming an artist, or pursuing any long-term dream, expectations can either propel us forward or trip us up. Too often, I see people starting out with high hopes, only to give up when things don’t happen as quickly as they’d like. As soon as it gets hard, they abandon ship. But here’s the truth: this is a marathon, not a sprint. Real growth, real success, takes time and persistence.

The Secret of Success: Persistence Over Talent

When I look at all my clients who have done well, the common thread isn’t talent or luck—it’s sticking with it over time. They keep showing up, even when progress feels slow or the challenges feel overwhelming. And what I’ve learned is that so much more can be achieved long-term than we expect, as long as we don’t give up.

Stay Connected to Your Vision

The key is to stay connected to what you truly want. It’s easy to focus on the problems getting in the way—the tough days, the discomfort, the doubts. But those are just temporary hurdles. Dissatisfaction is a normal part of growth. Doubting your ability? Totally normal, too. These moments aren’t signs to stop; they’re part of the process.

Aligning with Your Outcome

If you can align yourself with the outcome you want to see, it’s as though the result is already done. Your job is simply to live up to it, step by step. The good news? It’s actually easier than you think. Staying consistent and showing up daily might feel challenging at times, but the practice itself simplifies everything.

When It Gets Hard, Remember Your Why

So, when it gets hard—and it will—remember why you started. Hold onto that vision of what you’re working towards. Growth might be uncomfortable, but it’s also what makes it so rewarding. You’ve got this; just keep going.

If you’re someone who’s in this for the long game and you want a mentor in your corner as you grow your voice and artistry, feel free to reach out. I work with singers and creatives in London and online worldwide.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”   ― Terence McKenna
