Becoming a professional musician is an exciting journey, and one that many of my clients aspire to and many have achieved. It’s an absolute pleasure guiding singers towards a multifaceted career in music. This process includes honing technical vocal skills, developing a unique artistic identity, familiarising yourself with regular performing, and releasing music. (I should note that many singers have no desire to become a professional singer and that is not required to partake in singing lessons!)
More Than Just Vocal Coaching
Although I have an extensive background in singing teaching and vocal coaching, my approach to teaching goes beyond just improving your singing voice. I strive to help students discover their individuality and what unique offerings they can bring to music. Having taught musicality and songwriting at various music schools across London, I find the process of integrating all these elements truly exciting. I personally studied artist development at British Academy of New Music.
Defining Your Artistic Identity
A vital part of this journey involves exploring and defining your artistic identity. This means understanding your musical style, curating your image, and finding your unique voice as an artist. It’s also about being versatile, which is why I emphasise understanding music theory, honing ear training, and even familiarising oneself with basic music production.
Mentorship and Career Strategy
An essential facet of my work involves serving as an artist mentor, assisting you in setting career goals, and developing a strategy to achieve them. This could range from guiding you in creating a compelling portfolio or demo, advising you on how to release music, or helping you navigate the live performance scene. As your mentor, I’m here to help you handle the highs and lows of a music career, offering a realistic picture of the industry and providing essential emotional support. Should this be of interest to you.
Mastering Live Performances
When it comes to live performances, you learn through doing. Through practising, showing up and reviewing your performances. I highly recommend that you perform regularly if you want to get proficient at this! There’s more to it than just singing. You need to learn how to enhance your stage presence and captivate your audience to create unforgettable experiences. This is the fun bit!
Building Resilience in the Industry
Resilience is key in the music industry. The journey can often feel like a rollercoaster ride, and dealing with setbacks and rejection is part of the process. I’m here to help you build your resilience, support your mental health, and keep your motivation levels high. Please note, there are many ways to thrive in music. It’s not just about charting. The majority of my friends and myself have worked full time in music the whole of their adult lives and they are not suffering, but it does require dedication to your craft.
Conclusion: Shaping Your Music Career
If you’re exploring the path toward a professional singing or music career, I offer vocal coaching, artist development and creative mentoring in London and online worldwide. When you’re ready to shape your artistic identity and build a sustainable path forward, you’re welcome to reach out.
