Boost Your Singing Confidence Through Vocal Coaching

by | Jul 21, 2023 | Self Expression & Confidence Building

Whether you’re an aspiring artist or an established singer, we all share a common goal: to sing better and boost our vocal confidence!

The Transformative Power of Vocal Coaching

As a certified NLP Coach with over 20 years of experience, I can vouch for the transformative power of combined training in singing lessons. In addition to NLP, I am an EFT practitioner and a personal development coach, specialising in various confidence-building methods. My journey as a performer—including initially overcoming substantial stage fright—equips me to understand and address the performance-related nerves many singers face. I endeavour to perform every week to keep me in tune with the emotions and challenges that come with being on stage. If you struggle with performance nerves, I believe I’m well-placed to support you.

Techniques to Tame Performance Anxiety

Several techniques from my NLP training are particularly effective for boosting confidence in singing. These include:

  • Positive Embodied Mental Rehearsal: Visualising your success to prepare mentally for performance.
  • Anchoring Positive States: Creating physical triggers to invoke confidence during performances.
  • Modelling Excellence: Learning from the behaviours, attitudes, and beliefs of accomplished performers.

If you’re interested in these techniques, I’d be happy to share more.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous when performing. Personally, I found ‘Parts Work’ incredibly useful in taming performance anxiety. By identifying and engaging with our inner parts from a position of ‘Self energy’, we can help them shift to healthier roles, considerably reducing performance nerves. I would love to go through this transformative process with you.

The Benefits of Singing Lessons

Mastering the Technical Aspects

Singing lessons provide a pathway to technical mastery. By gaining insights into breath control, vocal range, pitch accuracy, resonance, and articulation, you can deepen your understanding of your voice, which in turn fosters confidence. Additionally, regular singing lessons encourage consistent practice, a crucial factor in improving your singing skills. As you witness your own progress, you’re likely to experience a significant boost in confidence.

Gaining Performance Experience

Performance experience is another critical component of vocal coaching. Singing lessons encourage you to seek out opportunities for live performances, whether they are small recitals or larger public events. Despite the initial nerves, you’ll find that performing becomes less daunting with practice and experience, contributing significantly to your confidence.

Setting Achievable Goals

Working with a vocal coach enables you to set and achieve small, manageable goals. These stepping stones lead towards your larger performance targets, boosting your confidence along the way. Furthermore, singing lessons can enhance your body awareness, teaching you about posture and physical presence, which improves your vocal output and overall confidence.

The Emotional Connection to Singing

Lastly, singing is a deeply emotional art form. Tapping into your emotions and expressing them through music can be both empowering and confidence-boosting. As you reach milestones in your singing journey—such as mastering a challenging song or successfully performing in front of an audience—you’ll experience a profound sense of achievement that significantly boosts your confidence.

Embrace Your Unique Journey

Remember, everyone’s singing journey is unique, and building confidence takes time and practice.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”   ― Terence McKenna
