How to Honour Your Beautiful Life Through Your Voice

by | Dec 11, 2020 | Self Expression & Confidence Building, Songwriting & Musicality for Singers

Your life is so beautiful. It deserves to be honoured and celebrated.

Your voice, your songs, your art are the ashes of your beautiful life.

So let’s suck out all the marrow of life.

Experience the beauty

For me, now, this means experiencing the beauty in every moment. To be present to the warm water slowly dripping down my back in the shower, the silky warm china cup against my lip as I drink my sweet tea, the smell of my X’s thick, grey woollen jumper against my face. I carry it all in me. That’s where I sing from. That’s where I write from. That’s where I find my own, unique voice.

Shed your fear

I’m no longer afraid to say ‘that’s me’. ‘That beautiful girl crying on the sofa’. ‘That Goddess in the river’, ’That mad woman screaming in fury, her heart about to burst’. I am that. I’m all those things. And that’s what I want for you to. We all live a life worth singing about, worth writing songs about. You may not have found your ‘voice’ yet but it’s definitely in there and it’s unique and special and something worth sharing. That’s my speciality, bringing it out. Life is a mystifying miracle. There is so much to cherish, the heartbreak, the ecstasy….Let’s sing it out, let’s express it, let’s share it, let’s write it down, let’s celebrate it all. #InTheEndTheLoveYouTakeIsEqualToTheLoveYouMake.

Homeplay: Your action

When you have some time to yourself, take a pen and paper and write down stream of consciousness moments from your life. All the things that come up, everything, the good the bad, because who says they are bad? This is for you only and might take some time to feel natural, but allow everything to come out, for no reason than to celebrate life.

If you feel the pull to express more of your beautiful life — in your singing, your writing, or your artistry — you’re warmly welcome to explore this work with me. I’m Jennifer May, a vocal coach and artist development mentor in London and online worldwide, supporting singers and creators in honouring their truth through expressive voicework. When you’re ready, we can explore your voice together.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”   ― Terence McKenna

Welcome to my space for singers and artists — a place to explore the voice, creativity, and the deeper layers of expression.
I write from my perspective as a vocal coach and artist-development mentor, sharing ideas, techniques, and reflections from inside the work.

If something here moves you, provokes you, or opens a door for your singing, you’re always welcome to reach out.
