Sing for Yourself: Joy, Fulfilment and Vocal Expression

by | Jul 21, 2023 | Self Expression & Confidence Building

The Personal Journey of a Vocal Artist

Despite what many might think, I’ve always sung primarily for myself, seeking joy and self-expression. It may seem a tad selfish, but my journey with singing began as a means of conveying my innermost thoughts and emotions when words fell short. I found myself seated at my piano, writing my first song at the age of four, and I’ve been creating music ever since.

From Performance to Passion

While I love performing (I currently perform anywhere from once to three times a week)—it was not the act of performance that sparked my initial love for singing. What truly captivated me was the sheer exhilaration that singing brought me. Yes, I appreciated that others enjoyed hearing me sing, and it was certainly an added bonus that I had a knack for it from the start. Although my skills have significantly improved since those early days, my passion for singing has never waned. Even if no one else were to hear me sing again, I would continue to do so. Singing allows me to connect with myself, with others, and with the world in a deeply personal and profound way.

Singing Lessons for Everyone

I am a firm believer that the joy of singing should be accessible to everyone. There’s no need to have industry-centered goals for your singing journey unless that’s your thing – it doesn’t need to be. Singing isn’t just for those born with natural talent, nor is it limited to those aspiring to professional status. I want to assure you that singing is for anyone who feels drawn to it. You don’t have to reach a particular skill level to start singing lessons or vocal coaching.

The Health Benefits of Singing

The benefits of singing stretch far beyond the musical realm. Not only is it good for your health, but it’s also a fantastic stress reliever. The act of singing can bring about both physical and mental health benefits, notably enhancing your mood. This uplift in your mood can have a transformative impact on your whole life, enriching your creative spirit in the process.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.”   ― Terence McKenna
